Description
Originating in France in the 1850’s, the Salmon Faverolle is a good dual purpose chicken being both a good layer and a large size bird. The Salmon Faverolle chicken has a calm and docile personality which makes them a favorite chicken for backyards. Their characteristics include beard or called muff, 5 toes and feathered shanks. They are not the strongest chicks we offer and can get dehydrated quickly during shipping. So be sure to have your brooder ready and all warmed up and baby them on arrival. They lay a light brown egg and some might call it a peachy egg shell color. As adults don’t build roosting poles that are too high for them and always beware that they have that 5th toe that can be damaged easily if it gets caught by the wire fencing.
We also offer at limited times of the year Salmon Faverolle Fertile Hatching Eggs

Tiguma –
We ordered Faverolles from Cackle for the first time this year but we are not new to the breed. We ordered 7 pullets, 1 cockerel. They arrived alive and Cackle included an extra one. It was marked on the order sheet as an extra hen. We lost 1 only 2 hrs after pick up. Unfortunately the 1 marked as the cockerel (orange chin) also died a few days later. He just never thrived. The others looked great and we were very pleased that all have proper extra toes with none fused, missing, or uneven lengths. Now that they are feathering out, we have 2 that are definitely cockerels. Despite all the remaining supposed to have all been pullets, we are kinda glad to have 1 as a replacement for the original cockerel. We will probably order another small batch of pullets in the spring.
