Description
The Partridge Plymouth Rock chicken combines the best traits of the Barred Plymouth Rock with unusual plumage — roosters and hens notably differ. The handsome roosters have black hackle and saddle feathers edged in rich red, set off by an iridescent black breast and body. The lovely hens are reddish brown with black penciling on each feather.
The Partridge Plymouth Rock chicken originated in New Jersey and has been listed in the American Standard of Perfection since 1910, yet remains relatively rare. Because this breed is so unusual, it is a standout at exhibition.
Partridge Rocks are also excellent dual-purpose egg-and-meat chickens. The hens lay around 200 large brown-shell eggs per year. They are not especially broody, but when they do brood, they are protective mothers. As meat birds, these chickens are fast growing. Hens reach 7 pounds, roosters 8 pounds.
Cackle Hatchery® has invested more than 40 years in breeding the Partridge variety. They are both cold and heat tolerant, good foragers, and less susceptible to predation thanks to their uncommon plumage pattern. With this combination of features, the Partridge Plymouth Rock chicken makes an outstanding choice for free ranging.

Good layers. Docile. Very Beautiful.
These are beautiful chickens. I ordered these two years ago from cackle hatchery and have only lost one of the seven I received (a fox got her). These are very healthy chickens. Good layers. They tamed down very easily and were definitely big pets. Will follow you anywhere. They like water for some reason. Mine will not stay out of it. The rooster is very docile and the biggest pet out of the flock. Very striking in the yard. Many compliments about how beautiful they are.
