Description

The Cackle Branded “Chocolate Egger®” is a Cackle Hatchery genetic line of breeding that focuses on breeding hens that will produce a very dark brown bloom covering of their eggs. Feather coloring and body type are not a focus in this breeding program but rather our strict focus is on strong eggshell and on eggshell color. Egg production can average from 180-260 eggs a year with egg sizes ranging from medium to large size. Most of the males and females will have some feathering on their legs and the majority of these chicken’s body will be feathered in shades of browns.

This is one of many of the Cackle branded “Egger” lines offered by Cackle Hatchery.

So happy to see this breed offered! I received a black tailed red marans in a 2022 Surprise Box and he looks just like the fellow in the group shot. He’s been an awesome roo and we started our own line of “chocolate eggers” using him and two marans pullets (wheaten and french black) from the same box, in 2022. The next year we back crossed the chicks, selecting for the darkest speckled eggs. Couldn’t be happier with this year’s chicks!
