Description

The Indio Gigante, or Indian Giant, is the tallest chicken breed in the world. It is a game fowl breed with unusually long legs and an incredibly long neck.

To qualify as an Indio Gigante, a mature rooster must be at least 41 inches tall and weigh at least 10 pounds. A hen must be at least 35 inches tall and weigh at least 6½ pounds. Height measures from beak to toe with the bird lying stretched out flat. The tallest roosters have measured as much as 4 feet.

Indio Gigante chickens have a docile temperament and are excellent foragers. They come from Brazil, developed by crossing different breeds of large Asian game fowl with meat breeds. Aside from the novelty of being exceptionally tall, they also make superb meat birds.
