I bought a dozen Chocolate Eggers back in February 2022 and had a pretty decent hatch rate of 7/12 in March, but an additional one died the following day. I had 50:50 ratio of hens and roos (easy to tell by differing plumage), but found 4/6 dead at 2 weeks old (tried rearing them outdoors…won’t do that again). Of the two that remained, I had one hen and one roo. They are 100% Wheatan Marans with gorgeous orange plumage. Our hen started laying at 25 weeks, and they are beautiful dark chocolate colored as is typical for a Wheatan Marans. Bit skittish, but otherwise calm chooks.
